BBFC has stepped up its commitment to Player Development in 2019.
Brett White continues to oversee our Player Development activities for 2019 with support from Carla Richardson (Womens Football) and Gary Williamson (Mens Football). This leadership group focuses on all aspects of club, team and player development on and off the pitch.
8s to 11s male and female – Geoff Holden from SSFA Academy will attend all training sessions to help guide coaches and players. This will ensure all players have good opportunities to develop.
Geoff Holden is currently a full-time coach with the SSFA Academy and has charge of the SSFA WNPL2 2nd grade in 2019.
Geoff has coached extensively at SSFA over the past 5 years after having coached a number of different teams at BBFC including under 16A, W30, 21s and others.
His sons have been involved at BBFC over the years meaning Geoff has an excellent understanding of the club.
12s to 16s male and female – we have appointed Mick McGovern as Technical Director. He will get around on a rotating basis to all teams at training and on match days to support coaches and players to be the best that they can be.
Mick McGovern believes in BBFC having selected it as the club he wanted to bring his son and daughter to start their careers at. He is also a teacher at Inaburra School. His soccer CV set out below is very impressive.
“Mick started playing in 1987 as a Sutherland Shire Football Association Junior. He enjoyed a 20 year playing career that included playing for Sawtell Scorpions in the North Coast Football Premier League.
He began my coaching career in 2006 with taking a number of school teams at Thomas Hassall Anglican College. In 2008 he started coaching with the SSFA in their Development Squad Academy, where he was encouraged to develop his coaching through attendance in FFA coaching courses. Mick completed the Junior and Youth community licenses in 2009, then the Senior License in 2010.
In 2010, Mick was appointed the New Anglican Schools Sports Association (NASSA) Open Girls Head Coach and the All Co Educational Independent Schools (ACEIS) Open Girls Head Coach. This, in conjunction with his time in the SSFA, lead to his appointmnet as the SSFA’s Women’s National Premier Leagues (WNPL) U12’s in 2011. In 2012 he began working at Inaburra school and has been heavily involved in developing their football teams and programs ever since.
Whilst coaching in the WNPL, Mick took on a role within the SSFA’s coach development committee, as the Chairman and Co-Ordinator of the SSFA Development Squads until 2013. In 2012 he coached the Women’s U16’s Met Far South team in the NSW State Titles. Also in 2013, he continued his coaching education by completing the FFA/AFC C-License. This lead to Mick’s appointment as the SSFA WNPL First Grade coach in 2014, a position he had the privilege of coaching for 5 years. Over that time Mick was awarded the FNSW WNPL2 Coach of the Year in both 2015 and 2016, and helped earn the club promotion to WNPL1 in 2017. Mick furthered his coach education by completing my FFA/AFC B License in 2017, and has now completed part 1 of the FFA/AFC A License which he hopes to complete in 2019.
In 2018 Mick joined the Bonnet Bay FC community coaching the U6 Intra’s team that his son was involved in. He is eagerly looking forward to the 2019 season at BBFC and cannot wait to help support the club and the youth coaches.”
